New Energy Distributing offers
quality “B” vent fireplaces and “B” vent Stoves for the home,
including models by Lennox and Empire. In the descriptions below
where the term “fireplace” is used, it is intend to include stoves.
While many homeowners prefer
direct vent fireplaces, some prefer “B” vent fireplaces as the unit
itself is sometimes less expensive. However the additional venting
cost of a “B” vent fireplace may more than offset any savings on the
unit compared to a Direct Vent Fireplace. New Energy Distributing
can help you decide which type of fireplace system is best for you.
HERE’S
HOW THEY WORK:
A “B” vent fireplace draws air from inside the home thus making them
much less efficient. They are installed using “B” vent pipe which is
very similar to the pipe used to vent a conventional furnace or
water heater. The hot flue gases rise naturally up through the vent
which must pass through the roof and terminate above nearby
obstructions.
A direct vent fireplace, in
contrast, draws air from outside the home using either a collinear
(pipe within a pipe) or coaxial (two pipes generally ran side by
side with a single termination) vent pipe system. In either case one
pipe is for exhaust and one if for intake. The heated air inside the
unit expands causing the exhaust gases to exit from the exhaust pipe
while pulling fresh air from outside the home in through the intake
pipe. Direct vent systems do not have to terminate above the roof.
They can terminate horizontally through an exterior wall often
saving hundreds of dollars in chase construction.
